Mit KICK AXE meldet sich ein weiteres Urgestein der Hardrock-Szene der achtziger Jahre zuruck. Mit ihrem Debut "Vices" schafften die Kanadier ein kleines Genre-Meisterwerk und konnten vor allem in ihrem Heimatland und den USA kraftig abraumen (u.a. gab es fur das Album eine Goldene Schallplatte) sowie Auftritte in den grossten Hallen durchziehen. Mit den beiden Nachfolgealben gelang es allerdings nicht, das hohe Niveau zu halten. So loste man sich 1987 konsequenterweise auf, bevor man Anfang der Neunziger sicherlich als typisches Grunge-Opfer geendet ware.
Heute ist die Truppe fast in Originalbesetzung wieder am Start (nur Sanger George Criston, der mittlerweile mit Dido und Avril Lavigne zusammenarbeitet, wurde durch seinen Vorganger Gary Langen ersetzt), und sie macht das, was sie schon fruher am besten konnte: kraftvollen Hardrock mit klasse Melodien. Dabei geht man die Sache mittlerweile etwas ruhiger und reifer als in der Vergangenheit an und lasst seine Einflusse Led Zeppelin ('Consolation') und Uriah Heep ('Time') stellenweise deutlicher durchschimmern. Herausgekommen ist ein wirklich schones und zeitloses Album mit 14 brandneuen Nummern, die zwar weniger rocken als fruher, die Tradition des melodischen, relaxten Ohrwurm-Hardrock in der Schule von Great White oder Kingdom Come aber niveauvoll weiterfuhren. Titel wie 'Rockin' Daze' oder 'Rock'n'Roll Dog' sprechen da fur sich.

With KICK AXE, another veteran of the hard rock scene of the eighties returns. With their debut "Vices", the Canadians managed a small genre masterpiece and were able to tear off a lot, especially in their home country and the USA (including a gold record for the album) and perform in the biggest halls. With the two successor albums, however, it was not possible to maintain the high level. So they resolved in 1987 consistently, before they would end in the early nineties certainly as a typical grunge victim.
Today the group is almost back in the lineup (only singer George Criston, now working with Dido and Avril Lavigne, was replaced by his predecessor Gary Langen), and it does what it used to do best: powerful hard rock, great melodies. In the meantime, things are getting a bit calmer and more mature than in the past, and let the influences of Led Zeppelin ('Consolation') and Uriah Heep ('Time') shine through more clearly in places. The result is a really beautiful and timeless album with 14 brand new numbers, which rock less than before, but the tradition of the melodic, relaxed earwig hard rock in the school of Great White or Kingdom Come but continued on a high level. Titles like 'Rockin' Daze' or 'Rock'n'Roll Dog' speak for themselves.
