Eccolo qua, all'appello delle ristampe dei canadesi Kick Axe mancava soltanto lui, questo "Rock the world" originariamente licenziato nel 1987 (distribuzione europea by RoadRunner Rec.) e terzo tassello della loro ottima discografia.
"Welcome to the club" e "Vices" avevano già subito lo stesso trattamento ad opera della SongHaus/Rewind (Sony) negli anni 2000 e 2001 e le confortanti vendite di tali riedizioni hanno convinto la band a ritornare sulle scene, con un disco, "IV", sinceramente un po' deludente.
Nel frattempo la valutazione della versione originale di questo bellissimo lavoro aveva raggiunto vette considerevoli e per la gioia dei collezionisti meno "abbienti", la MTM Music (loro attuale label) decide di ridare alle stampe anche questo platter, spesso abbastanza sottostimato nell'ambito delle classiche retrospettive riguardanti la band.
L'hard rock dalle connotazioni originali e il leggero afflato "guerriero" di "Rock the world" torna, quindi, a librarsi alto, beneficiando, inoltre, di un'eccellente operazione di ri-masterizzazione non invadente (ma già la versione in vinile godeva di una dinamica piuttosto buona), di un artwork inedito (mantenendo lo stile un po' "naif" dell'Lp) e dell'inserimento di una bonus track, la potente "Piece of the rock".
La voce di Criston è ancora oggi incredibilmente attraente nella sua tipicità e regala flussi adrenalinici copiosi, durante lo scorrere di piccoli capolavori che si chiamano "Rock the world", "The chain" mirabile cover dei Fleetwood Mac , con il pulsante symphonic fuzz bass di Langen e il drumming poderoso di Gillstrom in grande spolvero, "Devachan" e "The dark crusade", esercizi di mimetismo tra "fuoco" epico ed imponenti proiezioni melodiche, senza trascurare la "mitologica" "Medusa", l'irresistibile seduzione di "We still remember" o la strepitosa "Magic man".
Al tempo della sua uscita quest'album mi riservò delle fantastiche vibrazioni e il fatto che, riascoltandolo oggi, a distanza di una ventina d'anni, quelle stesse sensazioni si mantengano pressoché intatte, è, per quanto mi riguarda, un segno inequivocabile della sua validità superiore, rimasta inattaccata dal trascorrere delle mode e delle "nuove" tendenze.
Il rimpianto per il come-back del 2004, non giudicabile all'altezza del loro passato, non può che risultare aumentato, così come l'auspicio che i Kick Axe sappiano risollevarsi da quel torpore, tornare ad "accoglierci nel club" dei "vizi" e riprendere a "rock-are il mondo" come sapevano fare così bene.

"Welcome to the Club" and "Vices" had already undergone the same treatment by SongHaus / Rewind (Sony) in the years 2000 and 2001 and the comforting sales of such re-editions convinced the band to return to the scene, with a record, "IV", sincerely a little disappointing.
Meanwhile, the evaluation of the original version of this beautiful work had reached considerable heights and for the joy of less "wealthy" collectors, MTM Music (their current label) decided to give this platter back to the press, often quite underestimated in the classic retrospectives concerning the band.
The hard rock with its original connotations and the light "warrior" afflicted by "Rock the World" returns, therefore, to hover high, also benefiting from an excellent non-invasive re-mastering operation (but already the vinyl version enjoyed a rather good dynamic), a new artwork (keeping the style a "naive" LP) and the inclusion of a bonus track, the powerful "Piece of the Rock".
The voice of Criston is still incredibly attractive in its typicality and gives copious adrenaline flows, during the flow of small masterpieces that are called "Rock the World", "The Chain" admirable cover of Fleetwood Mac, with the symphonic fuzz bass button of Langen and the powerful drumming of Gillstrom in great dust, "Devachan" and "The Dark Crusade", mimicry exercises between epic "fire" and impressive melodic projections, without neglecting the "mythological" "Medusa", the irresistible seduction of " We Still Remember" or the amazing "Magic Man".
At the time of its release this album gave me some fantastic vibrations and the fact that, listening to it today, after twenty years, those same sensations are kept almost intact, is, as far as I'm concerned, an unequivocal sign of its superior validity, remained unattached by the passing of fashions and "new" trends.
The regret for the come-back of 2004, not judging up to their past, can only be increased, as well as the hope that the Kick Axe will be able to recover from that torpor, return to "welcome us in the club" of the "vices "and resume" rock the world "as they knew how to do so well.
