Kanadas bester Vertreter des melodischen Hard Rocks ist nicht totzukriegen. Mit ihrer neuen, bereits dritten Scheibe "Rock The World" sind Kick Axe zwar - zumindest in Europa - nun bei einem Independent Label gelandet (die CBS, die die Vorgänger "Vices" und "Welcome To The Club" veröffentlichte, hatte an diesem Werk offensichtlich kein Interesse), was mehr oder minder einen Statusverlust bedeutet, aber Gitarrist Larry Gillstrom sieht die Position des Quartetts dennoch gesichert. Qualität stehe schließlich auch heute noch hoch im Kurs. Als Larry Kick Axe im Jahr 1976 zusammen mit Victor Langen ins Leben rief, wurde von Beginn an akribisch auf Qualität geachtet.
Zunächst bemühte sich die Band, mit einer ausgewogenen Mischung aus Coverversionen und Eigenkompositionen erste Fans zu gewinnen. Zwei Jahre tourte man mit diesem Vorsatz durchs Umland von Regina in Saskatchawan. Mit dem Einstieg von Raymond Arthur Harvey zog die Band von der Provinz in die Metropole Vancouver um und entwickelte sich dort, verstärkt durch Larry's Bruder Brian Gillstrom, zum gefragtesten 'unsigned act' der Stadl. Der US-Amerikaner George Criston stieß 1983 zu Kick Axe, und Produzent Spencer Proffer (Quiet Riot) wurde auf die Band aufmerksam.
Schließlich nahm er sie fur das Pasha Label unter Vertrag und produzierte das gute Debüt "Vices", das in der kanadischen Heimat goldveredelt wurde. Ähnlich gut verkaufte sich auch die '85er Scheibe "Welcome To The Club", ehe Raymond Harvey im Bahr darauf Kick Axe verließ, um sich Soloprojekten zu widmen. Zu viert machte die Band weiter. Larry legte im Studio selbst Hand an und produzierte den neuen Longplayer "Rock The World" - eine bärenstarke, melodische Scheibe in bester Kick Axe-Tradition. Und von gewohnt hoher Qualität...
